TOOLS

We visualized the complete dairy ecosystem to understand how every stakeholder contributes to the larger system. This helped us identify hidden relationships and dependencies before moving towards solutions.

Our Design Process

To understand the system, we followed a structured Systems Design approach.

Secondary Research

System Mapping

Rich Picture

Instead of focusing on isolated challenges, we investigated the underlying causes affecting milk quality, farmer livelihood, buffalo health, and consumer trust.

This helped us identify the real leverage points within the system.

Looking Beyond the Symptoms

Based on our findings, we identified opportunities where design could create meaningful impact.

Opportunity Areas

Through our research, several key insights emerged

Through our research, several key insights emerged

Small interventions can influence the larger system.

Awareness is equally important as infrastructure.

Animal health impacts the entire supply chain.

Farmer welfare directly affects milk quality.

Inspired by the Mapro Experience Centre, our solution transforms research into an engaging educational experience.

Visitors explore the complete dairy ecosystem through interactive exhibits, storytelling, and immersive learning spaces that create awareness about sustainable dairy practices.

Expected Impact

The Experience Centre creates a stronger connection between consumers and the dairy ecosystem by promoting awareness, transparency, and appreciation for everyone involved in the journey from farm to table.

It encourages informed choices while supporting sustainable dairy practices.

adulterated milk leads to gastric issues, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, food poisoning and long term consequences too.

Vegetarian population prefer paneer as a major source of protein
high ratio of weight to protein, roughly 18โ€“21 grams per 100 grams
paneer is similar to chicken
paneer is considered as a whole source of protein

why - awareness about protein deficient (Indian rank at top )
solutions - plant based - more reachability

gym craze - helps muscle - strength

A2 source of milk is known as the purest source, no adulteration, no injected cattle ,Pure desi cattle, free and healthy cattle

Dhyan Foundation is working to protect animals by pushing for stricter laws against cruelty, regular checks on dairies to stop illegal hormone use, and better care for cattle. They also support giving indigenous cows a special protected status like โ€œRajyamata-Gomataโ€ to ensure their safety and proper funding.

India comes in the top 3 exporter of beef
Mainly from Uttar Pradesh, Andra Pradesh, Telangana and Punjab (maharashtra )
exported to Vietnam, Malaysia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia

milking happens twice a day - on avg 8/10 litres of milk

On average a cattle have 15 kgs of fodder - which includes hay, channa, rice husk, cotton stock, dry grass, bran
oil cake ( cotton silk residue, channa churri, maize) - is the protein for cattle - which reduces the food intake)

In Aarey, with 15,000 buffaloes and units like 32 ร— 200, maintaining health is vital for selling milk to retailers. Antibiotics like Amoxicillin and Ceftiofur are used to treat Pneumonia (from climate changes) and MFD (common after summer), though they can cause side effects like diarrhea or injection pain. To protect production, vaccinations are done every 6 months. It is critical to follow waiting periods after using these meds so the milk stays safe for the market.

Cost saving -
real paneer - 450/kg
analog paneer 210/kg
easier to produce and longer shelf life
plant based without any nutrients

adultrated paneer is more toxic then analog paneer

Owners choice to decide whether to produce cow / buffalo milk

major reason -

price of buffalo milk in the market is higher then cow milk
buffalo milk produces more fat that in return makes more by product
buffalo has an after life - sent for slaughtering - cows are illegal

Other surveys cited by FAO and USDA estimate 40% of the Indian population as being vegetarian. These surveys indicate that even Indians who do eat meat, do so infrequently, with less than 30% consuming it regularly, although the reasons are mainly cultural.

Inconsistent milk quality due to variations in hygiene, cattle health, and dairy practices.

Overuse of progesterone creating long-term health risks for cattle and ethical concerns in production.

Poor maintenance and hygiene of dairy equipment leading to contamination risks.

Poor maintenance and hygiene of dairy equipment leading to contamination risks.

Fluctuating paneer demand driven by unstable protein trends and changing consumer behavior.

Feedback Loops

A Systems Design approach to understanding the dairy ecosystem through research, systems thinking, and an immersive Experience Centre.

The dairy ecosystem is much more than milk production. It is a network of farmers, buffaloes, veterinarians, suppliers, processors, distributors, retailers, and consumers, all influencing one another.

Rather than solving individual problems, we explored the entire ecosystem to understand how these interconnected relationships shape the industry.

The system map and feedback loops reveal how a single change can influence multiple stakeholders across the dairy ecosystem.

Understanding these relationships enabled us to identify opportunities with a greater long-term impact.
